We act on behalf of our client, based in the West Midlands; they are a well-established specialist steelwork fabricator and supplier of Architectural Steelwork and Metalwork including Balustrades, Staircases, Handrails and secondary steelwork, from design through to fabrication, site delivery and erection.
Due to continued growth, and a full order book, they now require an experienced Workshop Foreman.
Role and Responsibilities
The successful candidate must have previous experience of working within a steelwork fabrication company, fabricating items such as those listed above, with experience working on conventional structural steelwork being an advantage. However, experience working on the Architectural side of Steelwork / Metalwork such as Staircases, Handrails etc. is essential.
Planning and operating of all works, from inception to site delivery.
Manage and coordinate production staff whilst ensuring all company regulations are adhered to.
Ensure works are completed to client deadlines whilst working to a budget.
To identify and manage any issues with work schedules, not limited to but including quality control, production defects and material supply issues.
Ensure the administration side of production is managed. Employee timesheets fully completed, delivery paperwork and any other requirement associated with production.
You could potentially be running up to five projects at any time, so time management and the ability to plan works ahead is necessary.
When work levels require, you will need to assist with production.
Working to CE certification standards.
Formulating and delivering ‘Toolbox’ Talks to staff.
Completion of Factory Risk Assessments.
Some of the candidate abilities that will be required.
Hold a keen eye for detail.
You will have a proven track record of managing a fabrication facility or be an experienced steelwork fabricator that is looking to climb the career ladder into workshop management but wanting to retain a hands on approach and mentality.
The ability to streamline production processes, to improve efficiency and maximise output.
Computer literate with Microsoft Office as standard.
People Management skills, including operating of staff appraisals.
First Aid Certificate Holder, with a recognized adjudicating body would be an advantage.
This is a full-time position, with a good hourly rate that is negotiable, depending upon experience. The role will require overtime, including weekend working, when required by production levels. Overtime would be payable at 'time and a half.'
