Software Applications Engineer - Steelwork Industry
Our client is a leading engineering company working in the field of steelwork engineering and construction. Based in the Midlands, they are experts in their field and have invested significant amounts of money into manufacturing software and its ongoing development.
They now seek a Software Applications Engineer to work for them across their multiple sites, helping to install and implement software solutions and to further train staff members on the software. This will be an ongoing process in numerous sites with continued support and training as required.
The particular software you will be working with is an MIS system - Management Information Software solution and in this case, for the structural steelwork industry. Existing knowledge of MIS systems such as StruMIS or Fabtrol or similar would be an advantage.
What is essential, is your ability to implement and support software as well as train employees within the structural steelwork industry with a good knowledge of the functions of the employees within different departments.
Key skills required:
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Ability to train employees on a one to one basis or in a classroom environment.
Ability to install software across a network or locally and to link / network to appropriate PC's, machines / machinery.
Experience in delivering software training in a formal training environment to a wide range of staff with a broad range of roles within the business.
(Staff to be trained working in different steel fabrication departments such as,Estimating,Purchasing, Stock Control, Fabrication, Site planning etc etc - all using elements of the same MIS solution)
Excellent PC literacy.
Project Management skills.
Excellent communication and delivery skills - ensuring all employees have successful software training.
Experience of working within / for a steelwork fabricator with familiarity of how such a business functions and operates from design to site erection.
Expertise in all departments is not necessary, but as the software "sits" across most departments within the steelwork fabricator, a good understanding of the department’s functions and the life cycle of the steelwork is required.
Past experience of installing, implementing and training software solutions.
MIS knowledge with packages such as StruMIS or FabTrol or similar would be an advantage but formal training will be given on the company's software anyway.
To understand the customers’ requirements pre-installation.
To install, implement and successfully train staff on the MIS software.
Ongoing web training sessions will be required as will some ongoing support.
To help catalogue any issues within the software, user requests etc and to liaise with the technical department accordingly.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone to join a large, leading edge Engineering Company using leading edge software. Experience of the structural steelwork industry is a distinct advantage as you will need to know how this industry works.
Therefore, as well as candidates that have existing experience of software installation and training etc, this job may also suit someone that uses MIS software, working within a steelwork fabricator such as an Estimator, Buyer, Workshop Planner / Manager etc who now wishes to make a career working in the software side of a business as opposed to being a software user.
